Burton Joyce Parish Council

2/6/09   An Meeting has taken place between Cllr s Potter & Cluff of  BJPC and Mark Speck of the Notts Wildlife Trust at the Grove. With a view to receiving quality conservation and educational advice on work that needs to be done at the Grove.

In addition to the lawned central areas there are other less used parts and borders that can provide interest and aesthetic value . Additional  planting of native species, bird and bat boxes types and placement together possible wild flower meadow areas  with educational signage is being considered.

Further consultation  with NWT is needed to develop a zoned site plan and target species inventories and take the project further possibly including an education area for the nearby Primary School.

Mid June saw a meeting with Chairman Richard Potter & Cllr Cluff and the Notts Wildlife Trust viewing work in other areas of Nottingham that have been achieved using The Blue Butterfly Scheme.

Early July.  A Draft Plan covering the site has been proposed for costing to the Building Better Communities Dept. The results of the costing  (can it all be afforded!!) will be available in around 4 weeks and will form then the basis of the Final Plan for submission to the Parish Council.

Basic details include improved  Driveway, Wildflower meadow zone and conservation area for the Children of Burton Joyce Primary School, re-fencing, pathways and seating. In consultation with Notts Wildlife Trust a conservation plan has been submitted that should form the backbone of our development policy– include a Blue Butterfly scheme and Bird , Bat Boxes and bird cams. Signage on the history of the Grove and the conservational policy , species recognition have also been allowed for.

August 2009. Contract documents and final costings are due to be presented to the BJPC in September details are awaited from Building Better Communities Dept.
