The Amenities Committee of BJPC has begun a review of this play area with a view to updating most of its equipment which is looking rather tired and well used.
The first stage of this review was conducted by Amenities Committee Chairman Councillor Pat Blandamer– who with a working group had consultations with local parents reported the general feeling was that an update was needed, but most parents surprisingly wanted to keep the old helter skelter slide at the southern end. Councillor Steve Cluff joined the Amenities Committee in March specifically to assist in this redevelopment.
After some further analysis is needed before Stage 2 which is to come up with a plan, costings and timings for the new development.
Stage 3 will be to look at sources of funding from the BJPC own budget, Grant assistance and local input from fundraising to Sponsorship will all be considered.
A proposal in March 2009 to set up an Roberts Play Equipment fund will be put to the BJPC for approval.
Stage 4 will be implementation. Whilst it is too early to set dates—funding is the critical issue. Should this be available then new equipment could be available within a year. BJPC believes that funding will be tighter in 2009/2010 and harder to obtain.

Burton Joyce Play ground refit takes a step closer .

The BJPC amenities committee has put forward an outline  proposal for the total refitting of Robert Recreation ground , next to the Nelson Pub. The plan involves finance and grants from 4 sources including BJPC funds to a maximum of £200k.  Securing funding and the operational experience  of Groundworks UK (who completed  Lambley Playground recently) will take approximately 6months. Provisionally design and consultation phase will end at the end of Summer 2010 for construction over the least used winter phase. Full Council will review the outline funding plan on November 3rd 2009 for progression to the next stage.
