The Parish Council has commissioned a topographical survey to be carried out to establish the exact levels of the surface outside the row of shops on Main Street. Once the result of this survey is back designers can begin to put together a draft design proposal for consultation. The Parish Council is trying really hard to get some improvements to the village centre and – as previously reported – it is proving quite a difficult task because of the ownership issues, availability of external sources of funding and time constraints. In a recent meeting with Groundworks (the company project managing the scheme on behalf of the PC) the idea of getting a Village Centre Community Group/Fund started was raised. The biggest benefit to this would be raising interest, ownership and funds from the community which the project is going to benefit – it would also encourage funds from other sources if it could be proven that the community genuinely backed and supported the improvements. A similar scheme with the Roberts Recreation Ground where a group of local parents formed a specially constituted group to raise funds for play equipment etc proved to be very successful.
If anyone is interested in being involved or has any ideas which may be of help, please contact the Parish Clerk.
