Council Committees and their Functions

Parish Council


Burton Joyce has 11 Parish Councillors who meet once a month, primarily to ratify and approve minutes and decisions made by  its 5 Committees.



Poplars Sports Ground Committee


The 6 councillors on the Poplars Sports Ground Committee review, monitor and make recommendation on the upkeep, income, availability and maintenance of the Sports Ground. It also manages Sports Club contracts and Licensees.



Finance and General Purpose Committee


This Committee, which is chaired by the Parish Council Chair, monitors income and expenditure, sets and reviews the annual budgets, makes recommendations on staffing issues, oversees and reports on internal/external audits and ensures the Parish Council complies with regulations and operates within a legal framework. There  are 5  Councillors on this Committee



Planning Committee


The Parish Council is a statutory consultee on any planning applications submitted to Gedling Borough Council with regard to properties in Burton Joyce. The Planning Committee, which has a membership of 5 Parish councillors, meets regularly to inspect and review plans, offer advice and register any objections.



The Old School Building Phase II Committee

This sub-committee is tasked with exploring opportunities for developing the land around the building for the benefit of the community. It is made up of seven parish councilors and other residents with key local knowledge and skills.



Amenities Committee


The 5 councillors on the Amenities Committee are primarily responsible for facilities and services managed by the Parish Council, including the Roberts Recreation Ground, the Grove, Cemetery, Allotments, Village Memorials, grass verges and floral displays




Communities Committee

The newest of Parish Council Committees, the 5 councillors who sit on Communities Committee discuss and make recommendations on issues such as policing, transport, highways, community events and large scale county-wide planning/developments which may impact on village life.
