100% Success in our Grant Applications
The Parish Council is always looking for external sources of funding to benefit the community, beyond the income received from the precept and its ongoing activities and events. Our most recent grant application for £70k was to Gedling Borough Council for s106 funding for ‘open space’ provision, generated from the levy paid by developers for a local housing development. This fund, which would normally stay with GBC for their dispersal, was directed to the Parish Council to part-fund the community garden at the Old School Building. We were also delighted to have received donations for the community garden from the Burton Joyce and Bulcote Women’s Institute and from the proceeds of the Burton Joyce Open Gardens, for which we are extremely grateful.
Last year, driven by the enthusiasm and support from the ‘Friends of Roberts Recreation Ground’ our application for £100k to rejuvenate the playground was also successful. Again this is a fund which is usually applied for at Borough Council level, so we were delighted to have won the full grant at the Parish Council.
We have also received smaller awards from the National Lottery’s ‘Awards for All’ for the development of the Neighbourhood Plan (which entitles us to receiving 25% of Community Infrastructure Levy funds from housing development levies, instead of the standard 15%) and to fund ad-hoc community events such as the Kings Coronation, from which we have a new set of outdoor chairs and planters as a lasting legacy from the day.
In tandem with the on-going community garden project, our next step is to pursue funding for the casual play area at the Poplars Sports Ground, a long-standing plan which we will pick up on again shortly.
